An overview of Progressive Design-Build (PDB), the two-phase model transforming project delivery. Presenters will explain how PDB flips the script by selecting a design-builder based mainly on qualifications and working collaboratively with the owner to finalize the design and price in Phase 1, rather than a fixed bid upfront. With proper expectations, PDB can be a powerful tool – combining the single-point responsibility and fast-tracking of design-build with a transparent, team-oriented approach akin to integrated project delivery. The session will also update attendees on recent state legislation expanding PDB authority and highlight early successes now that more agencies can use this collaborative model to tackle complex water and transportation projects.
